P is for Poly Styrene tote bag by Grow Wild Studio.
Poly Styrene, born Marianne Joan Elliott-Said (July 3, 1957 – April 25, 2011) was a British musician and front woman for the 1970's punk band X-Ray Spex. Described as the "archetype for the modern-day feminist punk"; because she wore dental braces, stood against the typical sex object female of 1970s rock star, sported a gaudy Dayglo wardrobe, and was of mixed race. She was "one of the least conventional front-persons in rock history, male or female" and possessed a powerful, bold, and fiercely feminine voice.
The Feminist Alphabet Series is an ongoing art project of limited edition silkscreened children's items, prints, and tote bags designed to celebrate inspirational and important women in the world.
Each item is handprinted using a silkscreen technique. This printing method produces unique, one of a kind items that may differ slightly between products.
10% of proceeds go to Planned Parenthood. To date we've donated over $136k to Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, the Houston Food Bank, Unidos Por Puerto Rico, and She Should Run.
